I finished this book a couple of weeks ago and I have to say that it took me a bit longer than I expected. It’s a pretty long read at 599 pages long. However, the format is very different from any novel I have ever known and this is what really sets this book apart from any other. The story is told in a series of dossiers, emails, interviews, and secret encrypted messages. This is by far the most unique read I’ve encountered since being introduced to Ellen Hopkins and her writing style in Crank many years back. This is my first science-fiction read and I really enjoyed it. My only complaint is that while the format is extraordinary, I found it challenging at times. The story made up for that and it was a minor setback to staying on track with the reading. This way of storytelling is innovative and eye-catching to say the very least. Illuminae has all the elements a young adult novel should have, young love, breakups, makeups, and heart-stopping twists in this dystopian setting. When I first laid eyes on this hardcover, I knew I had to have it. It’s so beautiful and when you take a look inside, you know you’re in for a real treat. This book is one of three and I give this first installment 4.5/5 stars. I will definitely be picking up the second book very soon! If you’ve read this book, please let me know what you think!

Last night I managed to finish reading this book without drowning in my own tears. Yes, this is sure to bring on the water works. Unless you are made of complete stone, of course. Louisa Clark is absolutely lovable from the beginning with her eccentric style, wittiness, and loyal heart. Will Traynor builds a wall of bricks after an accident that lands him in a wheelchair and paralyzed from the chest down. This is not your every day love story. However, this will definitely open your eyes to the kind of love that is forgiving and completely understanding in ways unlike anything you’ve heard of before. I give this book a 5/5 stars.
This is the first book I’ve read by Rainbow Rowell and I love the flow of her writing. The story is narrated by both Eleanor and Park and it is done beautifully. It took me four days to finish, sooner if I didn’t have to feed and care for my little humans. I absolutely love the dynamic within the story. This book is life changing, yes. While these two find themselves gravitating closer, your heart is doing the same. I was so invested in this story and where I wanted the characters to end. Some of the details within the story are so heartbreaking. This wasn’t a tear-jerker for me but the anxiety levels were rising for sure! I remembered what it felt like to be a teenager and all the excitement that comes with falling in love, or perhaps something like it :).
I am finally getting around to sharing my thoughts on The Rose and The Dagger. I was so excited when I received this book because the first ended in a way that ripped my heart right out of my chest! I don’t want to give anything away but I will say that this book started a bit slow for me. It wasn’t boring but I feel that things dragged out a bit. When things started to really pick up, it was nearly to the end of the story and this gave me so much anxiety because I simply didn’t know how it would end with little pages ahead and an overwhelming amount of madness, if you will. So, as I reached the ending, I felt that it was a bit rushed for my liking. It was a strange emotion when I closed the book and set it aside. The details of this sandy world are so beautiful. You truly feel that you are there with Shahrzad and Khalid under the blazing sun. While there is no mention of a third installment, I will say that Renee Ahdieh leaves us with the possibility of there being one. I am giving this one a 4/5 stars.
