Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits

braggs_acv_1.jpg

Anyone who knows me has heard me rave about this. I’ve been drinking apple cider for almost a year now and I absolutely love it! This has helped me with energy, weight loss, curb appetite, relieves sore throat, balances ph levels, and much more!

For internal health, drink one to two tablespoons in eight ounces of water, or your favorite drink (or shake), two times a day.

  • Helps with weight loss (due to its acetic acid) and curb appetite
  • Maintains your body’s pH level
  • Helps detox your liver
  • Boosts energy
  • Reduce heartburn
  • Helps your body fight candida (type of fungus)
  • Helps clear up blemishes and skin conditions
  • Improve irregularity
  • Helps with respiratory issues
  • Prevents allergy attacks
  • Gargle after brushing your teeth to kill bad breath and throat infections
  • Dip tooth-brush in apple cider and brush to remove stains for a whiter smile!
  • Add a bit in your preferred tea with honey and lemon when feeling under the weather
  • Use apple cider to make your own salad dressing! Tastes great and is great for you!

You can use this as a facial toner after your morning and evening skin care routine. After cleansing your face, gently tap dry. Take one part apple cider and two parts purified water. Take a clean cotton ball or cotton swab to evenly spread toner on your face. Let your face air dry completely, allowing the apple cider to absorb and follow this up with your moisturizer. This helps give your skin a youthful glowing look and those who have severe acne will find using this after about a week, it will significantly clear your skin!

For hair care you can purchase a spray bottle and add one part purified water and one part apple cider vinegar. When it’s time for your wash, spray throughout your scalp and length. Massage gently and then shampoo and condition as usual. This helps break build up, prevents and rids you of dandruff, and leaves you with shiny locks!

burns

Suffering from sun burn? No worries! Apple cider vinegar helps with that too!

Fill your tub up with cool water and add one cup of apple cider. Soak for at least fifteen to twenty minutes for relief. 🙂

Having trouble getting the floors clean? Add half a cup of ACV to water and you’ll have clean floors and surfaces with no problem. Apple cider kills bacteria, making this product a great disinfectant and keeping a perfectly safe and clean environment for your little one to crawl on! 🙂

pets.jpeg

Need something to rid your pet from those pesky fleas? That’s right, apple cider gets rid of that as well! With a spray bottle, add one part apple cider with two to three parts water. Spray over your pets coat and those fleas will be dying to find a new home (get it? 😉 ). Your pet will be flea free and left with a beautiful shiny coat!

weeds

If weeds in your beloved garden are an ongoing problem, apple cider is the answer! in a spray bottle add one part apple cider and about six to seven parts water. Spray and say good-bye to those weeds! Happy gardening! 🙂

So, you see here the many benefits of having this one product on your shelf at all times! My favorite brand is Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar which can be found at most markets. I like to order mine in bulk on Amazon to be sure I never run out :).

Home Remedy For Allergies

I developed severe allergies when I first became pregnant. It’s just one of the many possible changes your body goes through. Sadly, they never went away, they only worsened. I have tried every over the counter and prescribed medication under the sun. I decided to start looking for a natural approach last year when I came across apple cider vinegar. I purchased the Bragg’s organic unrefined vinegar and began taking one to two tablespoons in eight ounces of water twice a day. About a month into drinking it, I had not experienced a sinus attack and it was without question that I would continue drinking it. Relieving sinus issues is just one of the many benefits apple cider brings to the table and I will go into all those details in another post.

Although I still drink apple cider, not only in my water, I also put it in my shakes and teas. I failed to drink it for the last few days. I walked outside and instantly started sneezing and the attack hit me with a vengeance. I sneezed all day long; itchy watery eyes, runny nose, swollen nasal passage, you name it and I was suffering from it yesterday.

And while apple cider helps, it’s gradual and you MUST drink it every day in order to prevent the attacks. I looked up a quicker remedy, all ingredients I already had right at home!

Honey and Turmeric!! Yep, that’s it!! Can you believe it?

Honey is great for allergies and you most likely have that on hand. Be sure that it is raw honey! Processed is just no good!

Turmeric is a great inflammatory antibacterial ingredient!! Put it together with raw honey and you have found the holy grail of quick allergy relief!

The best way to take this is to make a mixture or simply add a bit of both to your tea or warm water.

Should you want to make the mixture, all you have to do is take about six to seven tablespoons in a jar. Add six tablespoons of turmeric powder and mix until it is evenly distributed. This mixture will keep up to a year!

Now, I like to simply add a tablespoon of honey and a dash (or two) of turmeric to my tea and drink that down.

I like kombucha because of its many antioxidants, and of course, it just tastes divine! 🙂

Peppermint tea is great too! That minty aroma really helps with soothing your nasal passage!

peppermint-tea

Drink this two to three times and within twenty-four hours you’ll feel like your old self again! My attacks used to last up to three days!!

Today I’m enjoying the mixture with iced kombucha tea 🙂 I always add lemon to my tea. So good!!

Sober Lovin’

party-lights

My phone rang for the tenth time in the last five minutes and I didn’t need to read the caller ID to know it was Jenny. “Can you please let me get ready? What the hell do you wear to a Luau anyway?” I asked with more frustration as I looked around at my entire wardrobe thrown on my bedroom floor.

“Come on, Raven! Don’t be such a loser! This was the perfect party theme to get tons of hot bodies to my place! It’s summer and I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to swim with some hotties.” She said, giggling like a child in a candy store. I didn’t think I knew anyone more boy crazy than my best friend. I sighed and continued to rummage through the pile on my floor, tossing everything to the other side of the room.

“Jenn, I don’t have anything that’s Hawaiian. What the hell am I gonna do?” I asked, a little panicked now.

“Raven you’re hopeless, ya know that right?”

“Whatever, just tell me you have something I can borrow?”

“Alright, I’ll be right over.”

Twenty minutes later I opened my front door to find Jenny holding up a fuchsia colored strapless dress with black flowers.

“I love it!” I said, taking it from her hand and letting her in.

“You’re the best, Jenn!” I said, giving her a squeeze. I quickly slipped on the dress and was delighted to see how nicely it hugged my chest. The last thing I wanted to worry about was my boobs falling out.

“Well damn, Rave. You look hot!” Jenn said, passing me black sandals.

“Thanks.” I said, twirling in the dress.

“Uh, Jenn? Whose idea was it to have a Luau at night, anyway?” I asked, laughing.

“Texas heat is bad enough during the day, it’s tolerable at night and after lots of fruity drinks. So let’s get the hell out of here. I heard Mike was going to be there.” She nudged my shoulder and started heading towards the door. I sighed, grabbed my clutch and hoped I wouldn’t have to face Mike.

Jenn drove way too fast. The suburban homes flashed by while the music blasted in her Chevy SUV. I couldn’t help but think back to the last time I saw Mike. It was another one of Jenn’s legendary theme parties; only that time it was Lingerie. I remember settling for hip hugging jeans and a lacy bra.

I walked in to Jenn’s place and it was well after everyone had plenty to drink. There were guys dressed in silk robes, top hats, and bedroom slippers, all the while holding plastic chalices to the air, and surrounded by girls in their tiniest garments.

I figured I had to play catch up and walked past everyone and straight to the kitchen. I opted for three shots of Goldschlager and chased it down with an iced cold Budweiser.

I barely had anything to eat so the rush of the buzz was coming quickly and the music sounded sweeter than when I first walked in.

“Hey.” Said an unfamiliar voice. I turned around to find a tall tanned pretty boy smiling down at me. I recognized him right away. Mike Wilson, Nancy’s ex boyfriend and one of the hottest guys in town. He was always at every party and always had Nancy on his arm, except for that night.

Smiling, I said hello and handed him a shot of the golden-flaked liquor. He tossed it back and pulled me to the living room where half naked bodies were swaying left and right. The DJ was playing all the right songs and as Mike wrapped his hands around my waist, he pressed his body against mine as we moved in time with the music. The room seemed to spin with every move and I wished I hadn’t taken so many shots.

Mike pulled my long curls to the side and whispered in my ear. The music was so loud, I wasn’t sure what he said but I smiled anyway. He lead me passed the crowd, passed the kitchen, and finally stopped in front of one of the bedrooms. I was pretty dazed at that point but I knew what his mission was. He opened the door and kicked the couple already occupying the bed out of the room. Surprisingly enough, they gathered their clothes and left.

“Come on, beautiful.” He demanded. I said nothing when he threw me on to the bed and said nothing still when he locked the door and flicked the light off. I knew I shouldn’t have been there with him. I didn’t even know him. He obviously didn’t care about me. I wasn’t sure what emotion I felt more, lust or guilt? The guilt was pulsing through me but once Mike was above me, I no longer had control.

He kissed me hard with intent and wasted no time unbuttoning my jeans and peeling them off. I giggled and kissed him back, wrapping my bare legs around his waist, urging him to continue. The shame of giving myself to someone I barely knew slowly disappeared when I pulled him into me and lost all traces of my sensibility.

It ended as quickly as it began and before I knew it he pecked me on the forehead, pulled up his pants and left the room. Confused and embarrassed, I stumbled over to where my jeans were and jiggled them on. I bent down to find my shoes but I was too drunk and blinded by the darkness of the room. I walked over to the light switch and nearly screamed when I saw a guy passed out on the floor face down in puke.

Sobriety came quick and I just wanted to get out of there. I spotted my shoes by the dresser and bolted out of the room. I headed straight for the nearest bathroom. With my heels in one hand, I locked myself in and stared at my reflection. With tears running down my face, I could only utter one word, “Pathetic.”

“Hello! You okay?” Jenn asked, slapping my arm.

“Uh, yea. I’m good.” We were sitting on Jenn’s driveway.

“Are you sure? You look like you could really use a drink.”

“Yea, I guess I could.” I said, walking behind her, I tried to shake of the memory of the last time I saw Mike all those months ago. The room was colorful with plastic blown up palm trees and fishnets with seashells on the walls. Jenn really outdid herself with the decorations, I thought. I was looking up at the pineapple lanterns when I spotted six feet of gorgeous staring at me.

Looking around the room, positive this beautiful man was looking at someone else, there was no one behind me. I smiled at him and decided now was a good enough time as any to grab a drink.

“Hey, Rave. More people are arriving and heading out back to the pool. Do you want to come?” Asked Jenn.

“No thanks. I think I’ll just hang back and go say hi to Kevin.

“Yea, okay.” She said and walked outside.

I spotted Kevin by the table filled with fresh fruit and bite sized burgers.

“Hi Kev!” I nearly yelled over the music as I gave him a peck on the cheek and shook his boyfriends hand.”

“This is Taylor. Found him at the beach.” Kev winked with a sly smile.

I couldn’t help noticing that guy from before. He was now by the couch chatting up a couple of girls. A sting of jealously came over me as I wished to be one of those girls.

“You know Raven, you could go talk to him.” Said Kevin, giggling with Taylor.

“I don’t know. Who is he anyway?” I asked, eagerly.

“That’s Mark Wilson. He’s Mike Wilson’s twin brother.”

I nearly spit my heart out when I heard those words Mike in his face and I immediately wanted to leave.

“You okay, Rave? Feeling a little shy? Chuckled Kevin.

“No, I’m fine. Just need a drink. It was nice to see you again Kev and nice to meet you Taylor.” I rushed over to the kitchen, poured myself another drink and tossed it back. Out of all the guys here, why did I have to be attracted to Mike’s brother! His twin no less! Oh, the horror hit me and in low places.

I walked out to the front porch and sat on the white cushioned swing. There I sat, looking down at my cup and tossed the liquor out, vowing to myself that I would no longer let myself be consumed by drinking or by lust.

“Mind if I sit?” Asked a male voice. I sighed as I looked up into Mark’s kind face.

“Go ahead.” I said, walking back in to enjoy the rest of the party with a bottle of water at hand.

Apple Crescents

cinnamon-sugar-apple-filled-crescent-rolls

I always wanted to try these and decided to make a small batch. These are not meant to be eaten in large batches! Remember, moderation is important! One crescent is less than 200 calories so for me this was a perfect little treat to have with some tea 🙂

Let’s jump right into it, shall we?! 😉

Ingredients:

  • Two red apples (or whichever you prefer)
  • 1 eight ounce tin of Pillsbury Crescents
  • Non Stick Spray (I like Coconut oil 🙂 )
  • Cinnamon
  • Organic coconut Sugar
  • All natural almond butter

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Slice your apples into half moons, I did not remove the skin but you can do so if you prefer it that way :). Set them aside and move on to the crescents.Carefully open the crescent container, (I always have trouble with it hehe) and gently pull them apart. It makes it simple as they have the markings on it. Take your baking sheet and line it with parchment paper. Open the rolls and lightly spray the coconut oil on each one, add just a bit of almond butter, and a pinch of coconut sugar. Then grab your apple slice, placing it at the widest end of your roll and rolling it until you’ve reached the end. Lightly spray the top of the crescents and add a dash off cinnamon.

Bake these babies for ten to twelve minutes. Ten minutes were not enough for me as I like them a bit more golden brown so i left them in for twelve. They are so soft and oh so good filled with the amazing apple and almond butter goodness! These are so delicious and although you might want to have more than one, enjoy this treat with a cup of your favorite tea and share the joy with friends! 🙂

This is a fun and very simple recipe anyone can take on! I think we might be ready to conquer an apple pie next! What do you think? 🙂

Homemade Hummus

I’ve been procrastinating on this recipe for a while now but I finally got around to making some hummus!

It’s super easy, healthy, and delicious!! This is a large batch because I made some for my brother to enjoy as well but just modify the amount to best suit your preference 🙂

Hummus-1.jpg

Let’s get to it!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Garbanzo beans
  • 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • Two lemons
  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt
  • 1 tablespoons of cumin
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 minced red pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1/4 purified water

Directions:

Rinse the garbanzo beans and add them to the blender, or food processor, along with the rest of the ingredients. Be sure to squeeze the lemon juice in a separate bowl if you don’t have a lemon squeezer, then add the lemon juice to the rest of the ingredients, you don’t want seeds in your hummus! 🙂

Blend until you reach the consistency you like. ***If it’s still too thick you can add one to two table spoons of water at a time.

Once you’re done blending add it to a bowl and sprinkle a bit of paprika on top. Garbanzo beans are a great source of protein! This is great with pita, as a sandwich spread, and a dip with raw veggies! I like mine with carrots and broccoli.

I hope you all enjoyed this delicious recipe! Enjoy!

New Yoga Pants!

It’s been a while since the last time I’ve purchased workout clothes and after a month of clean eating and Piyo madness, weight was lost and inches dropped! It was time for a new pair of pants for this lady!

I’ve always purchased yoga pants from Victoria’s Secret Pink but they just don’t quite do it for me anymore. I was searching for a more durable fabric, slim fitting but not suffocating feel at a reasonable price. We know that yoga pants can be pretty pricy, they range from forty to over a hundred dollars!

A friend suggested I give the new line Fabletics, by Kate Hudson a try. I must say I was a bit skeptical at first but when I signed up, they offer quite the discount off your first purchase! I was mostly in search of leggings so I bought one pair to try them out.

I am so in love with these leggings!! The fabric is fabulous! It hugs your body without feeling too tight, it compliments your shape with the high waist band, helping with tummy support as well. 🙂

I wore these out for a quick grocery shop and felt amazing walking around in these.

They move easily with my body through each pose and workout!

Needless to say, I’ll be purchasing more of these and keeping my monthly subscription with Fabletics!

Did the word subscription frighten you? No need! While you are a VIP member, you choose your style of clothing, allowing Fabletics stylists to hand pick amazing ensembles for you! An entire outfit will be sent to you monthly starting at $49.95. That’s a pretty sweet deal since many places offer that price for only one item! If you don’t want to be charged that month, all you have to do is log in to your account by the 5th of every month and skip the month. You can continue to skip each month until you’re ready to make the purchase!

Small Stationery Purchase

I couldn’t resist to feed my inner stationary junkie and make another purchase! 🙂

I mentioned in a previous post that Etsy is a great place to find a great variety of planner essentials.

I went back to my favorite shop, www.etsy.com/shop/LadyendeVagehond , and found some goodies I just had to have!

stationary-2

I couldn’t help myself when I saw this little stationery set! How adorable is it?!

On the left is another purchase which is adorably wrapped in this pretty paper. I almost didn’t want to open it 🙂

First, let’s take a closer look at the stationary set 🙂

stationary-3

Here’s an adorable little tape dispenser which comes with an extra roll of tape.

Here we have a mini sharpener, stapler, stapler remover, paper clips, and scissors.

I am absolutely mad over these! 🙂

stationary-4

Wrapped in the lovely gift paper were these super cute and handy sticky pockets. While my planner already has a folder and pouch, I have pretty much filled them to the max and I wanted to add an extra pocket or two for stickers and small notes. These are the two designs which came two of each. They’re perfect in size and price!

stationary-1

I placed it in the inner front cover of my planner and I just love it!

So, please go check out this Etsy shop for amazing finds at awesome prices!

Happy planning!
