Avocado Mask

I’m back with another beauty post my friends! Today I’m sharing with you a deep conditioning mask with two ingredients you probably already have right in your pantry!

  • Ripe Avocado
  • Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil

Cut into the avocado, half is more than enough for a face mask. Using a fork, mash the avocado until it is smooth. Take a tablespoon of melted coconut oil and add it to the avocado.

Be sure to cleanse your face before adding the mask. This coconut face wash is my favorite find! The price is decent and feels great on the skin! You can find it here.

Wash and gently tap your face dry before applying the mask.

Once you’ve evenly applied the mask to your face, let it sit for 15 minutes. Now, because I don’t like to see the rest go to waste and it was wash day for me, I applied the rest of the mask to my hair. ūüôā

Avocado is rich in antioxidants and is an age defying fruit. This tightens the skin, preventing those unwanted wrinkles! It deeply moisturizes and fuels your skin with all its nutrients, leaving your face smooth and glowing. The coconut oil adds moisture as well as adding a fresh bright glow to the skin. If you don’t want to use coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil is a great substitute. You can also add essential oils to the mixture, lavender and rosemary are both soothing and smell wonderful!

After the face mask has set for 15 mins, gently rinse with cool water and apply your choice of face cream. As for the hair mask, in order to get the full benefits, let it sit for at least 30 mins to an hour and wash as usual.

This is the first time I’ve used this treatment for my hair and face and I have to say, I can really see and feel the difference! My skin feels so moisturized and cleansed. I can see the immediate glow after just one use!

My hair feels and looks great too! It’s soft and shiny and the mask add life to my curls. This was so simple and I will definitely be using this mask weekly.

Until next time! xo

Curly Hair Routine

My curly hair routine has changed quite a bit. The biggest change being that I try not to straighten my hair. While I do find straight hair very lovely, straightening curly hair can ruin the curl pattern so I do my best to refrain.

Moisturizing is the biggest element in beautiful curls. Frizz simply means your hair is thirsty and the trick in having little to no frizz begins with the wash and using the right shampoo and conditioner sets the tone for the styling.

shea moisture products.png

Shea Moisture¬†is one of my favorite brands. I use their ¬†shampoo once every two weeks. Yes! I said it. I shampoo my hair every two weeks. However, I do co-wash every three days. What is co-washing? It is simply washing your hair with conditioner. The act of scrubbing your scalp with your fingers is what gets rid of the build up so don’t worry about not cleansing with shampoo every wash day. For the best prices, purchase these from Walmart, Target, or your local pharmacy.

My favorite conditioner is Suave Naturals Coconut Conditioner.

I buy this in bulk and it is very inexpensive! It can be found at any supermarket, pharmacy, Walmart, and Target. It’s natural with no harsh chemicals and smells amazing! When washing, be sure to make your last rinse with cold water to prevent frizz and leaving a bit of conditioner in. When drying your hair, you should always use a cotton shirt, satin scarf, or a microfiber towel. This will also prevent frizz and won’t soak up all the moisture.

Now for the styling products! Using Suave as my leave-in, I have also discovered this amazing product as my curling cream,¬†Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls. This product is a bit pricy for just 8.5 ounces but it is absolutely fabulous! It really helps shape beautiful bouncy curls. To get the best price, shop this items on Amazon Prime. Depending on your hair type, generously apply by finger raking the cream throughout your hair and scrunch.

pillow soft.jpg

The smell is almost like fabric softener! No lie! ūüôā It’s not overwhelming but it does last all day, leaving your hair smelling refreshingly clean!

To lock in the moisture and ensure the best hold for lovely curls, It is important to get your hands on a great styling gel.

Deva Curl Ultra Defining Gel¬†is my absolute favorite. It’s my holy grail to sealing in moisture and beautiful hold all day.

I apply a generous amount all throughout my hair also by raking it through and scrunching. When finished, scrunching with a cotton T or scarf to get rid of excess product before drying helps. I know a lot of ladies like to air dry but I simply do not have the patience. My hair always takes about four hours to dry so diffusing with low heat and low blow works best for me. It takes me about 20-25 mins to completely dry. Deva curl gel creates a hard cast to lock in all the moisture. I take about a dime size amount of coconut oil when I break the gel cast by scrunching and gently shaking my hair out at the crown while my hair is flipped over. It creates really nice volume and once the cast is broken it releases gorgeous curls without white flakes. This gel is sold at Ulta, selected salons, and online. For the best price I also purchase this on Amazon Prime in the largest bottle.

Below is my first day hair ūüôā I washed and styled my hair before bed. To protect my hair while sleeping, I pile my hair at my crown and tie it once in a loose bun so it doesn’t mess with the pattern, also known as the pineapple. By the time you wake up, it’s all lopsided which is normal. Doing this also creates nice volume and if you find any straight pieces or frizzy parts, just refreshen by adding water and scrunching. This reactivates the product in your hair. Unless you have hair that is very dense, then adding more product really isn’t necessary as this will only weigh your hair down. Adding a bit of coconut oil also helps calm those stray hairs.

Below is my hair the next morning. ūüôā Second day hair.

Here is my third day hair after adding a bit of water and letting it air dry.

Visibly there is a bit of frizz but I really don’t mind it much.

¬†This is my fourth day hair. Right after an hour of cardio. It’s sweaty and weighed down completely. Definitely the perfect time for a wash.

This is when the messy bun comes in handy ūüôā

Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits

Anyone who knows me has heard me rave about this. I’ve been drinking apple cider for almost a year now and I absolutely love it! This has helped me with energy, weight loss, curb appetite, relieves sore throat, balances ph levels, and much more!

For internal health, drink one to two tablespoons in eight ounces of water, or your favorite drink (or shake), two times a day.

  • Helps with weight loss (due to its acetic acid) and curb appetite
  • Maintains your body‚Äôs pH level
  • Helps detox your liver
  • Boosts energy
  • Reduce heartburn
  • Helps your body fight¬†candida (type of fungus)
  • Helps clear up blemishes and skin conditions
  • Improve irregularity
  • Helps with respiratory¬†issues
  • Prevents allergy attacks
  • Gargle after brushing your teeth to kill bad breath and throat infections
  • Dip tooth-brush in apple cider and brush to remove stains for a whiter smile!
  • Add a bit in your preferred tea with honey and lemon when feeling under the weather
  • Use apple cider to make your own salad dressing! Tastes great and is great for you!

You can use this as a facial toner after your morning and evening skin care routine. After cleansing your face, gently tap dry. Take one part apple cider and two parts purified water. Take a clean cotton ball or cotton swab to evenly spread toner on your face. Let your face air dry completely, allowing the apple cider to absorb and follow this up with your moisturizer. This helps give your skin a youthful glowing look and those who have severe acne will find using this after about a week, it will significantly clear your skin!

For hair care you can purchase a spray bottle and add one part purified water and one part apple cider vinegar. When it’s time for your wash, spray throughout your scalp and length. Massage gently and then shampoo and condition as usual. This helps break build up, prevents and rids you of dandruff, and leaves you with shiny locks!

Suffering from sun burn? No worries! Apple cider vinegar helps with that too!

Fill your tub up with cool water and add one cup of apple cider. Soak for at least fifteen to twenty minutes for relief. ūüôā

Having trouble getting the floors clean? Add half a cup of ACV to water and you’ll have clean floors and surfaces with no problem. Apple cider kills bacteria, making this product a great disinfectant and keeping a perfectly safe and clean environment for your little one to crawl on! ūüôā

Need something to rid your pet from those pesky fleas? That’s right, apple cider gets rid of that as well! With a spray bottle, add one part apple cider with two to three parts water. Spray over your pets coat and those fleas will be dying to find a new home (get it? ūüėČ ). Your pet will be flea free and left with a beautiful shiny coat!

If weeds in your beloved garden are an ongoing problem, apple cider is the answer! in a spray bottle add one part apple cider and about six to seven parts water. Spray and say good-bye to those weeds! Happy gardening! ūüôā

So, you see here the many benefits of having this one product on your shelf at all times! My favorite brand is Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar which can be found at most markets. I like to order mine in bulk on Amazon to be sure I never run out :).

New Yoga Pants!

It’s been a while since the last time I’ve purchased workout clothes and after a month of clean eating and Piyo madness, weight was lost and inches dropped! It was time for a new pair of pants for this lady!

I’ve always purchased yoga pants from Victoria’s Secret Pink but they just don’t quite do it for me anymore. I was searching for a more durable fabric, slim fitting but not suffocating feel at a reasonable price. We know that yoga pants can be pretty pricy, they range from forty to over a hundred dollars!

A friend suggested I give the new line Fabletics, by Kate Hudson a try. I must say I was a bit skeptical at first but when I signed up, they offer quite the discount off your first purchase! I was mostly in search of leggings so I bought one pair to try them out.

I am so in love with these leggings!! The fabric is fabulous! It hugs your body without feeling too tight, it compliments your shape with the high waist band, helping with tummy support as well. ūüôā

I wore these out for a quick grocery shop and felt amazing walking around in these.

They move easily with my body through each pose and workout!

Needless to say, I’ll be purchasing more of these and keeping my monthly subscription with Fabletics!

Did the word subscription frighten you? No need! While you are a VIP member, you choose your style of clothing, allowing Fabletics¬†stylists to hand pick amazing ensembles for you! An entire outfit will be sent to you monthly starting at $49.95. That’s a pretty sweet deal since many places offer that price for only one item! If you don’t want to be charged that month, all you have to do is log in to your account by the 5th of every month and skip the month. You can continue to skip each month until you’re ready to make the purchase!

Simple Nail Art

So I was busy decorating my Erin Condren planner when I suddenly felt like doing something with my nails. I have become even more obsessed with my nails ever since I went natural. I am always changing polishes (with my husbands annoyance) and who has time to do all those awesome designs?! Certainly not this mom!

While I don’t have nail stencils, I do have hole punchers and washi tape. I already had my nails painted from the night before in the loveliest shade of lavender. OPI’s Tickle My Francee. I grabbed another fave from OPI in the color Alpine Snow and my all time favorite fast drying top coat by Seche Vite.

I grabbed my craft scissors I already had nearby (couldn’t find my office scissors for the life of me!), the washi, and my gifted little heart-shaped hole puncher from my bestie :).

IMG_3120It was really simple to be honest. I don’t know why I hadn’t tried this sooner! I cut a piece of washi large enough to cover my entire nail and then punched it with the hole puncher. When you remove the tape, try to be careful so you don’t rip it.

Place the tape on your nail in the desired position.

IMG_3123Paint over the tape and quickly remove it.

Once you’ve removed the tape, move on to the next hand and repeat the steps before sealing it with your favorite top coat.

IMG_3126And there you have it! The end result. I hope you all enjoyed this post and once again, please feel free to share your own suggestions! I love hearing from everyone!

Flat Hair? Never!

For a long time I’ve struggled with patience. I detest waiting and being stuck in a tedious situation (as most do). It’s a trait I’m working on, sort of anyway. So, drying thick curly hair is just one of those tedious things I dread. I have never enjoyed blowing out my hair because it would just take far too long. I’m talking more than an hour here. ¬†So I would just flip my head over and dry it while forking my fingers through it because I found it to be an easier task than blowing it out by sections. I grabbed my handy Chi flat-iron and would straighten my curly mess to a sleek look. However, it often looked a little too sleek. Let’s just call it flat. Like a dead thing on my head.

I went on this way until I came across a brush that now makes blowing out my hair a much easier task than I could have ever imagined. This wonder brush cuts my blow drying time in half and gives my hair volume and shine. What more could a girl ask for? Although, I will say my arm gets a bit tired but hey, it’s a nice workout and worth it at that.

Now, while having a good brush is ideal, having the right blow dryer is important as well. Expect to spend a little more than you normally would. Remember, quality is key here! If you buy something cheap you might just have to purchase another one sooner than you would a more expensive and better working dryer.

With that said, let me introduce you to my stylists….

IMG_3246These two items have saved my hair and my time! The brush is by Cricket and it is a thermal brush with a barrel size of 3 1/4 inches. It has heat-resistant and static free bristles (Yay!!). No need to rub a sheet of fabric softener on your head. Just a little beauty hack for those who didn’t know ;).

This brush is large enough to take large sections of my long hair and with the added power of my blow dryer, it’s dry in no time!

The blow dryer is by BaByliss Pro. It’s smooth and rubberized all around for comfortability. Although it is a bit on the heavy side, it’s not bothersome since your ¬†time is cut a lot shorter. This blower is powerful but will not fry and helps eliminate frizz as well. I’m absolutely pleased with these purchases and I have to say that I no longer use the flat-iron on the length of my hair. I do however, use the iron on my bangs from time to time.

For all of you who are in search for shiny voluminous locks while saving time, give these a try! If you do, please let me know how it worked for you and if you have any suggestions for me, please share!!

Looking For The Perfect DIY Hair Mask?

DIY Mask

There are TONS of products out there that are too costly and simply do not give us that silky smooth look we crave! I have always been a product junky and I when I say “junky” I mean I was purchasing one product and still ten more that said it did the same exact thing. It was pretty ridiculous, especially since everything I tried just didn’t do what I needed it to do.¬† Continue reading
